10 years of K.I. Samen in Canada
K.I. Samen started to become active in Canada in 2000 and owner Bas Engelen explored the market himself. There was a lot of interest in the breeding philosophy of K.I Samen right from the start and cooperation with Canadian farmers grew steadily. As a result, the largest privately owned AI station in the Netherlands started a branch in Canada.

A decade of growth and collaboration
The foundation of K.I. Samen Canada Ltd
The increasing demand for semen from K.I. Samen resulted in the foundation of K.I. Samen Canada Ltd on 1 April 2015 in Beverly, Alberta. This made K.I. Samen not just a supplier, but also a valuable sparring partner for Canadian farmers. Our office is currently located in Saint Marys, Ontario, where Woody Van Erk is responsible for distributing the semen. Two Dutch breeding consultants travel to Canada twice a year to give farmers expert mating advice. Semen from K.I. Samen bulls is now used in eight Canadian provinces.

Participation at leading trade fairs
K.I. Samen has participated at various trade fairs for 10 years, including the Canadian Dairy XPO in Stratford and the Outdoor Farm Show in Woodstock, the major agricultural trade fair in Canada. At these events, K.I. demonstrates the benefits of its practical breeding philosophy.

Over 40 years of proven practical breeding
Our breeding vision will remain unchanged in the future – namely based on proven practical breeding. For more than 40 years, our focus has been on well-built, balanced dairy cows. Problem-free cows that contribute to pleasure at work and profitability on the farm.
“Our farm name is Paradise Dairy, because we milk K.I. Samen cows.”

K.I. Samen and the future
After all these years, K.I. Samen Canada has become an established name in the Canadian agricultural sector. K.I. Samen will continue to focus on a diverse range of pedigrees and the build of its bulls. All our bulls are sourced from proven cow families from working dairy farms. This enables K.I. Samen to offer a healthy and better alternative for farmers who prioritise proven practical breeding.
